Chanukah at ALYN Hospital: Making Rehabilitation Delicious!

Throughout Chanukah, some of ALYN’s therapists took advantage of the holiday to make therapeutic treatments more fun (and even tasty!) for the children. Making latkes is particularly popular with our Occupational Therapists at this time of year.

Making these special Chanukah treats offers the opportunity for the children to develop their fine motor skills through peeling and grating potatoes, breaking open eggs, sprinkling salt and pepper, and then stirring the mixture. The actual frying is, of course, left to the therapists! Preparing food that will be eaten also has the added benefit of increasing a child’s sense of independence and self-confidence, both of which are critically important to their success while undergoing rehabilitation as well as far into the future.
