Donor Spotlight: Boaz Pelzman
celebrates and honors ALYN for his Bar Mitzvah

Earlier this year, DC-based Wheels of Love rider, Phil Pelzman and his wife, Dana, called the American Friends of ALYN office to brainstorm ideas for a project in honor of their son Boaz’s bar mitzvah. Boaz decided to raise money to support ALYN Hospital by biking a minimum of 180 miles throughout the Washington, DC area.

Boaz was very excited to help the children at ALYN Hospital! And, with several close family connections with ALYN, it seemed like a perfect fit. Sarah and Yaakov Basse, Boaz’s great-great-aunt and uncle, frequently volunteered at the hospital in the 1960s and 1970s. Noah Pelzman, his uncle, dedicated his bar mitzvah project to ALYN in 1995. Most recently his father, Phil participated in the Wheels of Love Ride in 2019 and 2020, biking approximately 350 miles in Israel and the U.S, respectively.

Last month, the Pelzman family traveled to Israel to celebrate Boaz’s bar mitzvah. They visited ALYN to learn and see first-hand how Boaz’s bar mitzvah project impacts the lives of the children treated at ALYN. Their visit ended at the Mitzvah of Love dedication wall with the unveiling of a plaque honoring Boaz’s hard work.

The family was so inspired by the visit that they created a video to share with friends, family and other ALYN supporters in the hopes of raising more funds and awareness for the hospital.

Boaz has raised over $2440 to-date, approaching his $3,600 goal.
