WHEELS OF LOVE 2024
Wheels of Love 2024 took place from November 11-15. This year's ride honored the memory of Yakir Hexter, z"l, a beloved member of our community and former ride participant, who fell defending Israel in Gaza in January.
We had all spent months wondering “Will the ride happen?”, hearing that ride after ride scheduled in Israel had been cancelled this year. When we woke up Monday morning at Kibbutz Almog, the sun was shining and the joy was palpable – Wheels of Love 2024 was indeed happening!
Over 200 cyclists from 10 different countries set out on bicycles, and for the next four days we rode in the Dead Sea region. As usual, there were multiple routes: Road, Road Plus, Challenge, Touring, Trail and Enduro. For the first time this year, non-riding spouses of cyclists had the option of joining daily tours at off-the-beaten-path sites in the region.
Additionally, we had the honor of being joined by members of the Swift and Bold, a cycling team made up of current and former ALYN patients who joined us on tandem bicycles, handcycles, adapted bicycles and some on standard bikes. Notably, Mati Weiss, 17-years-old, who was treated at ALYN as a child, joined us on her handcycle. Mati has ridden with the Swift and Bold over the years for one or two days, but this year she participated for the full four days!
On Thursday, the final day of the ride, we were joined by an additional 100 one-day riders as well as the members of the Swift and Bold and rode in unison into ALYN Hospital, As we rode through the hospital entrance, we were greeted by the beaming faces of ALYN's children – the very reason we ride. Many of us became teary-eyed as these young patients placed medals around our necks. Their resilience reminds us why every mile, every hill, and every donation matters.
Due to COVID restrictions in previous years and the cancellation of the 2023 ride, this was the first time we have been able to experience the emotional finale of riding into the Hospital.
Wheels of Love has always offered its participants and volunteers the opportunity to ride for a cause – to be a part of something meaningful and impactful – supporting the amazing work that happens at ALYN Hospital. This year, we were fortunate to be able to celebrate so much more, beyond the power of doing something good; this year, we found strength and community and a true sense of klal Israel, unity and solidarity. Wheels of Love demonstrated that we are strongest when we come together.

Wheels of Love has already raised $2.6M for the children of ALYN Hospital. Help us reach our $3M goal. Every dollar brings us closer to giving another child the chance to walk, run, or even ride a bike for the first time. Join us in making these miracles possible.
